Boz to join line-up at 'Brian Fest' March 30 2015
Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson will be saluted by an all-star cast March 30 at Brian Fest, a charity fundraising concert at the intimate Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.
All of the songs that will be performed are by Wilson, the pop-music genius who rose to stardom in the 1960s, struggled with drugs and psychological problems, but endured to become a living legend, not a rock casualty. Wilson's new album, "Pier Pressure," will be release April 7 by Capitol Records, the label that signed Wilson and the Beach Boys in the early 1960s.
The lineup for "Brian Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of Brian Wilson" is a diverse one. It includes Wilson himself, along with Norah Jones, Brandon Flowers of the Killers, Boz Scaggs, San Diego native Ann Wilson of Heart, Wayne Coyne & Steve Drozd of The Flaming Lips, veteran Beach Boy Al Jardine and Wilson Phillips, the vocal trio that features Brian Wilson's daughters Carrie and Wendy.
Also scheduled to perform are M. Ward, Devendra Banhart, Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, Local Natives, Sebu Simonian of Capital Cities, Joy Williams, Doyle Bramhall II, Karen Elson, Jade Castrinos, Adam Busch, Danny Masterson and Gingger Shankar. More artists will be announced.
Tickets for Brian Fest go on sale Thursday morning at 10 a.m. through axs.com. They are priced at $55 to $350 each.
Proceeds will go to the Sweet Relief Musician's Fund, via the Jameson Neighborhood Fund. Jameson Irish Whiskey is the concert's corporate sponsor. Brian Fest is the latest edition of Best Fest, a 10-year-old series of tribute concerts that honor pop-music icons and raise money for Sweet Relief. Wilson was a guest performer at last year's edition, George Fest, which saluted former Beatle George Harrison.
