Boz and Band - Summer 2006:

An Overview - Written By Marlene

For those of you lucky enough to see Boz this year, he has the best musicians with him this time! Like he has said many times before, he gets the group together and let's them do their thing. You could see the pure joy they all experienced while performing. That's what motivates musicians I am sure.

Richard Patterson- Boz's longtime bass player, and by Boz's words, his "musical director" for this tour.

Paul Nagel- amazing on keyboards, standing up and really pounding the keys on "Sick and Tired"!

Khari Parker- keeping the beat on drums, back there behind the plexiglass(lol) and having a wonderful time doing it. He was smiling and laughing!

Eric Crystal- Boz's incredibly talented sax player, featured on outstanding solos, and showing his versatility on all the saxes and the flute.

Dave Scott- the wonderfully talented trumpet man, standing next to Eric and really getting into each and every song.

Shane Theriot- Boz's lead guitar player, who blossomed each and every night and showed incredible depth and passion on his guitar.

Barbara Wilson- Boz's longtime backup singer who is outstanding in her role, and she also took the lead in the Oroville show (when Monet was not there).

Monet- What can be said? This incredibly gifted singer is a show in herself! Her "Miss Sun" renditions with Boz are fantastic and are slightly different each time. She has Boz laughing by the end! Her "Street Life" was out of this world. I had the opportunity to talk with her backstage and she said she was going to Brazil again later in the year, prior to the Japan Tour.

And finally, a word about Boz....
He is incredible in concert! It is obvious he loves what he is doing and loves the musicians he is performing with. He sure wouldn't continue to do this if he wasn't getting any joy out of it.

To all his fans who get a chance to see him this year---ENJOY!!!!

Santa Rosa / Oroville / Reno

August 4th 5th & 6th 2006 - Written By Eileen.

I attended three Boz shows this summer, each one of them I recall fondly for different reasons.

The first one in Santa Rosa was memorable because it was in Boz territory, where he lives, and the audience was the most enthusiastic than at any other show I've seen  for Boz. They just wouldn't let up in the applause and I could tell that Boz was touched by the crowds reaction, so we were treated to four, count 'em four encores from Boz and the band.

The next show was in Oroville, other than having some rather inebriated, OK make that very inebriated group directly behind us it was memorable because Boz seemed so relaxed and happy and we were treated to some lovely Boz smiles from him. Again, Boz and band were in top form and because  Monet was out of town for that show we, as much as I enjoy her performing, we heard more guitar playing and were thrilled to hear "Sick and Tired" performed in place of "Miss Sun" what a treat that was! It's such a fun song and hearing that live was simply wonderful for me.

The last show I saw was in Reno, my husband joined the babes and basked in the glory of being the only guy in our group. LOL. He was so impressed by the show, he said that he had never seen Boz sound so good and the band members were the best of all the shows he has seen. The sound level, the musicianship of the band, how smooth and seamless the music flowed, everything about it has him raving to everyone he's talked to who is also a musician about that show. He has always enjoyed the Boz shows before but never like this one. I enjoyed hearing him telling one and all about the show. Boz did three encores that night and once again was happy and relaxed.

I would highly recommend that you run, don't walk, to see Boz if you get a chance. I will have many fond memories of this summer's Boztour.

Three nights, three shows, three times the pleasure!

Written By Marlene.

The Wells Fargo Center (Santa Rosa)
Feather Falls Casino (Oroville)
Grand Sierra Resort (Reno, Nevada)

Boz Scaggs and his band entertained and mesmerized the crowds each and every night! Even though the set lists were similar, the songs were played with a unique touch each and every time.

To hear my favorite song of all time-Slow Dancer-performed three times, was priceless!

Boz, so beloved in the Bay Area, was humbled by the standing ovations and the audience response from his "hometown" crowd! The love in the venue was clearly palpable! This "give and take" between the artist and his audience is what must drive Mr. Scaggs to continue doing what he loves:performing.

Boz's beautiful delivery of each and every song seems to get sweeter with age. His voice is richer, wiser, and very well cared for.

Being so close to the stage allowed me to more fully appreciate Boz's love for the guitar. It was a joy to watch him play so many different guitars with great feeling and passion. Watching his intense facial gestures, his graceful dexterity, his concentration, and mostly his enjoyment was amazing!

Each and every musician and singer on tour this year is a talent in their own right. You could not help but feel they all loved every minute of every performance. Doing what they loved, getting great audience response,  and having fun doing it! It was very obvious that Boz reveres his fellow musicians. He always gives them appreciation and room to shine on their own.

I was struck by the words of many of the people in attendance before each and every show, of how Boz's music means so much to them. There are memories associated with each and every song. Seeing Boz Scaggs perform takes us all on an incredible journey through the years of our lives.

I have been a die-hard Boz fan since 1972! The wonderful feelings and memories I have created from this experience cannot be put into words. All I can say is that Boz's music has always moved me. Seeing him performing "Live" is something his fans should strive for. He will "move" you too!

As he sang from "Desire": "Use those hands for something that's gonna work for
you baby To fill your arms and your heart with joy."

Thank you, Boz, for the joy you have given your fans!

Boz at the Mohegan Sun:

Written By Paul.

The concert did go off last night. Never heard of anything like that there. Tickets were not for sale, virtually all were comped to "high rollers".

They filled the floor and first tier of the aren, so there must have been about 5,000 in attendance

We had great seats....about 12 rows back from the stage, not a bad seat in the house there though.

Boz started out with "Lowdown" and seemed a little stiff the first few songs but then was *really really* good from there.

His supporting band was all different from when I last saw him 10 years ago..but very very good..sound is always great at the Casino and that really show cased the two back up singers.

He played one of my favorite songs "Vanishing Point" from an album about 6-7 years ago..only thing with casino shows like this and shows at the Wolf Den, the bands are all kept on a tight schedule and he had to stop playing by 9p.m. for the fireworks (and for people to gamble I assume).

His performance and band (I love that he always has horns with him) will be even better in a smaller venue..his vocals were as good as I've ever heard them, he played about 3 songs off the new album.

Boz at the Towne Hall, NYC

Written By Joan.

Okay, I'm happy. Boz was in great form, looked relaxed, his voice was wonderful -- the band excellent.

The set list consisted of:

Lowdown -- more jazzy version
JoJo -- also more jazzy
What Do You Want The Girl to Do
Slow Dancer
Hercules
Desire
Miss Sun
Street Life (Monet)
I've Got Your Love
Vanishing Point
Georgia
Lido Shuffle
Loan Me a Dime - incredible showcase number for the band
Breakdown Dead Ahead
Thanks To You

I think it was worth the price of admission! I needed that Boz fix. It has been two years since I've seen Boz perform live. I hope he makes a habit out of coming East. I also enjoyed the band. What great musicians -- they just work together so well. One big musical compliment!

I'm still smiling. Boz looked like he enjoyed all the standing ovations and his more mature audience getting up and dancing down the aisles. He makes us feel so young!
